本书特别注重原创性，把研究视角瞄准多民族地区的青海多元民俗文化圈这一中国文化实际，从理论与实践上进行全方位的探索，以具体研究过程来构建起民俗文化圈的研究模式。在总结历史和现实成功经验的基础上，着眼于多民族地区社会文化的未来发展，就如何合理利用和保护多元民俗文化圈资源，从而促进区域文化社会的建设，从理论与实践上做出思考和阐述。同时采用文献梳理与田野调查相结合、民俗文化学与民族文化学相结合、比较学与主题学相结合的方法，并从民俗学、文化人类学、宗教文化学等多学科角度，以更为开阔的学科与学术视角，来认识多民族多元文化并存区域文化格局与民族关系，理论方法上具有学术创新性。首次对青海三大民俗文化圈进行了全面系统深入的研究，并总结其多元共存、和谐共生的文化特征，力图进行整体概括和再现中国多民族地区多元民俗文化圈的演化规律，从学术实践来提升文化圈研究的水平，丰富民俗文化圈理论，以禆益于民俗学和民族文化学的学科建设。
