近代中国教育社会学是伴随着传统教育向现代教育转型以及中国近代学术分科体制的建立而逐步产生和发展的。从20世纪初到1949年，近代中国教育社会学经过近半个世纪的发展，学科理论构架基本形成，学科研究方法初步确立，并初步形成其独立的学科地位。具体考察近代中国教育社会学兴起的背景、学科制度建设、学科理论研究以及与近代乡村建设运动的互动及其影响等重要方面，不仅有助于厘清近代中国教育社会学自身的发展历史，而且可以从一个侧面了解百余年来中国现代学科知识体系创建的过程。当然，近代中国教育社会学在发展过程中也存在着一定的局限性和不足，但其长期积累的经验和教训对当今我国教育社会学学科的建设和发展来说仍是一笔值得借鉴的宝贵财富。
The sociology of education in modern China was gradually born and developed with the transformation of traditional education to modern education and the establishment of China's modern academic sub-discipline system.
