By analyzing and exploring Chinese dialects, ancient works, and all the clan of Sino-Tibetan language, this paper studied the source, function of status affix, and also its typical feature as Sino-Tibetan language. The paper states that status affix is a kind of pragmatic affix that situated between lexical affix and inflectional affix. The common feature of this kind of affix is it is descriptive; it can also be called pragmatic affix or descriptive affix.

Status affix includes prefix, suffix and mid affix. It can be monosyllable and polysyllable. The main features are: The structure of root and affix is incompact, the root can be used separately to represent complete meanings;the affix has fixed format and is lack of independency, it can not be used separately;and it has no verily meaning, only describing some kind of status, the written format is not related to its meaning, it just a formation based on pronunciation. In polysyllable word, some affixes are considered syllable, but not morpheme. Status affix has very unique pronunciation regulation and pragmatics meaning. The change of pronunciation and the change of affix are corresponding, forming a corresponding regulation among formation, pronunciation and meaning. The word that contains affix has more emotional meaning, emphasizing on situation status and especially has descriptive feature.

This kind of descriptive affix is widely used in the Sino-Tibetan languages. it is seen commonly in Chinese mandarin and all other dialects, especially wide spread in North China dialect and the Northeast China dialects. In other clan languages of Sino-Tibetan, this kind of affix is much seen in three, four-syllable words.

Most of the status affixes in mandarin and North China dialect are polysyllable suffixes. The reason is that this kind of polysyllable affix is better describing status and more applicable in spoken language. ACD form is seen more than ABB form in Beijing dialect and Harbin dialect, however, in mandarin ABB form is the mostly used, it carries the feature of written language. There is very little AABB form which is an overlapped formation. It takes the space of a word forming, reducing the possibility of the formation. ABCC form was mainly inherited from the ancient language, not being further developed. A le BB form has very strong regional feature, therefore is not adopted by mandarin. The status affix used in south China dialect is not less than in North China dialect. Most of the south China dialects applied status affix, and all the forms are well used, the number of certain type formation of status affix is even exceeding the number in north China dialect. Especially ABB form, the usage of this kind of formation in a few south China dialects is far more than in the north. Seeing from the development, lexical affix is productive, it forms words similar to inflectional affix. Once the words have identical formation, they will get the same format meaning and function.

Overlapped status affix was inherited from ancient overlapped formation. The overlapped phrase from ancient language has attributive and adverbial group, subject-predicate structure and complement structure, combining with nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Some of them are gradually becoming more functional, having no verily meaning, and turning to affix. The trace of its development is: overlapping--- phrases formed by overlapping words---ABB, AABB, ABCC form---ACD, A li AB form---ABCD, ADBC form. That is what is called rhetorical sentence construction, anagogic word construction, and pragmatic affix.

There are more than 20 different type of status affix in other national language of Sino-Tibetan language. The most common used is ABB overlapping suffix, it is adopted in 15 languages; Then it is AB form monosyllable suffix and ACD double syllable suffix, used in 9 and 10 different languages respectively. Looking at the status affix of Sino language based on the study of Sino-Tibetan language, it comes to a conclusion that status affix is a common formation in Sino-Tibetan language. Besides describing feature and status, it also adds some additional meaning, express thoughts and feeling. The formation of status affix has its rules in pronunciation change. But each different language has its own sound change pattern. The tone is changed in most languages.

There is no status affix in English or other European and Indian language system; therefore it is only the feature of Sino-Tibetan Language, not a feature in all languages. If Indian and European language system is a language that is featured in form, then we can say Sino-Tibetan language is a language with figurative feature. The similar type of language normally have similar feature in language changing. However, the status affix of each individual language in Sino-Tibetan language has both common and its own feature. The forming and developing of status affix is well related to the internal connection and external condition of the language.

It is main typological feature is they share the same characteristic of words forming, overlapping, rhythm and pragmatic feature. The status affix in each language has close correlation with overlaps, with regular pronunciation change; its structure can be tight or loose, it does not carry the main meaning of the word, however, it increase the vivid, emotional, and colloquial type meaning of a word additionally. It comes from the tonal language. It does not have to be the fixed affix, but using fixed format to emphasize on individuality and subjective impressions. The format is not the matter; it pays more attention on lively and figurative expression.

This paper states that status affix is a unique type of affix that only seen in Sino-Tibetan language. It is different from the lexical affix and inflectional affix in traditional study; it forms a separate independent system. The paper adopts statistics, analysis, comparing description, etc. method to explore the feature of status affix, it attempts to answer questions existing in language study from a new angle. It specially focuses on the feature, class of status affix and its type study meaning. To define is not the most important matter, this study pay more attention on listing example cases of the usage of a language, reflecting practice and explaining problem. This paper is a very good reference for researchers no matter what opinions they are holding. The outcome of this study is to provide valuable text and practical application information for the language users, learners and researchers.
