Modern university college,set up by China's colleges and universities in recent years,is the innovative educational organization on the basis of the western residential college and the characteristics of Chinese ancient college.The system of university college is universally named according to the organizational forms of university education and rules and regulations of the system.

From the perspective of the theory,modern university college has emerged and practiced by hundreds of colleges and universities across the country in recent 10 years.As a new thing,the reform of modern university college has significant difference among different universities or colleges,and lacks of theoretical guidance.Whether the theoretical system of constructing the university college can be logically put forward is not only related to deepening the reform,but also to the progress of the modern university system with Chinese characteristics.From the point of practical application,the standard of talent quality,the need of social development and the function of higher education have been changing since the popularization of higher education.It is evitable to fundamentally change the current situation of higher education,that is“pragmatism,professionalism is supreme”.Therefore,the construction and transformation of higher educational system has become an inevitable tendency,and the reform of university college is widely regarded as a kind of significant change of university system.The system of university college is considered to be a possible direction of enhancing the current problem of undergraduate education quality.This study attempts to construct the theory of the reform of modern university college from the medium measure of modern university system to promote the deep reform of the university college.The research has important theoretical and practical significance.

Based on pattern changes of university organization,this paper studies the following problems: first,the development and influence of residential college system in the western universities from the perspective of changes of university system;second,from the perspective of historical development,historical evolution of ancient college and the cultural connection between modern university college and ancient college are explored; third,on this basis,some theoretical issues such as the background of development,the logical starting point,operating mechanism and functional properties of the university college are deeply investigated; fourth,theoretical framework of university college system is constructed from the system of general education,professional education system,the internal governance mechanism,and guidance and development of students; finally,taking several typical universities as samples,the systematical design,goal orientation and practical path are thoroughly analyzed,and current reform and problems of modern university college are investigated from the angle of empirical data.

The innovation of this paper lies in the following three aspects:first,the research is systematically carried out from the development and change of university organization mode and historical research of western residential college system and Chinese ancient college;second,the theory of a college system is thoroughly carded and preliminarily constructed of the evitable development of university college,which effectively promotes the research of university college from the practical operation to the theoretical research; third,through the thorough analysis and investigation of the typical mode of university college,the current situation and problems of the reform of the university college have been overall exploded,which provides an important reference for deepening the reform.
