元代白话碑的碑文大都是译自元代蒙古语的公牍，是一种有价值的原始史料。元代白话碑的价值，可以从语言学和历史学两方面来说明。第一是语言学上的价值。元代的各种公牍，大都是先用蒙古文写成，然后再译为汉文白话。这种白话，虽然由于翻译水平的限制，还不能和当时的实际汉语完全一致，但它在一定程度上仍然反映了元代的白话口语状况，成为研究元代汉语史的一种很好的资料。本书就是此类资料的相关整理。

Most of the inscriptions on the vernacular tablets of the Yuan Dynasty are translated from the Mongolian language of the Yuan Dynasty, which is a valuable original historical material.
