《路史》是一部上古史通史性质的著作，以纬书十纪为时间纪年，认为天地开辟至孔子获麟，共历“二百二十七万六千岁”。在十纪的时间观下，罗泌于三皇五帝的帝系之上，增列了五十八位上古帝王，叙述天地开辟至夏代的上古历史。《路史》帝系背后所蕴藏的古史观念，彰显了罗泌对于上古历史与文化进程的思考，对后代的古史著述与神话小说具有深远的影响力。

从文学研究面向来看，罗泌重新诠释了神话人物/符号的象征，使之接轨于历史。从历史研究的角度来看，《路史》透过谶纬与道教史观，建构上古历史的发展，是一部藉由“神话历史化”的过程所记述的文化通史。本书试图分析《路史》帝系的排序意义，及其由“神话”到“历史”思维脉络的演变，进而从较为宏观的史学、文学视野重新定位《路史》在学术史上的价值。

The History of the Road is a work of the nature of a general history of ancient history, with the 10th period of the Weishu as the chronology, and it is believed that the opening of heaven and earth to the attainment of Confucius is "2.276 thousand years old". Under the view of time in the Ten Ages, Luo Yu added fifty-eight ancient emperors to the imperial line of the three emperors and five emperors, narrating the ancient history from the opening of heaven and earth to the Xia Dynasty. The concept of ancient history behind the imperial line of "History of the Road" highlights Luo Yu's thinking on the process of ancient history and culture, and has a far-reaching influence on the ancient history writings and mythological novels of future generations. From the perspective of literary research, Luo Yu reinterprets the symbolism of mythological characters/symbols and connects them with history. From the perspective of historical research, "History of the Road" constructs the development of ancient history through the concept of history and Taoism, and is a general history of culture recorded through the process of "mythological historicization".
