本书对中国现代小说市镇叙事进行专题研究。作者分别从中同现代小说市镇叙事中的疾病叙事、死亡叙事、欲望叙事、权力叙事、左翼叙事、仪式叙事、“异化”现象、“水”意象、叙事技巧、女性形象等方面着手，通过不同的角度，对中国现代小说市镇叙事进行了深入的探讨。同时，作者在书中提出了“中国现代市镇文学”的概念，并阐述了这一概念的内涵。通过提出“中国现代市镇文学”这一概念，突破了以往文学史著作关于中国现代文学的“乡土文学——都市文学”二元对立划分模式的认识，形成了对中国现代文学的“乡土文，学——市镇文学——都市文学”三元井立划分模式的新认识。

本书是目前国内学术界关于“中国现代小说市镇叙事”的第一本研究专著。本书的研究成果，拓宽了中国现代小说的研究视野，深化了对中国现代文学史的研究，填补了目前学术界的空白，具有重要的学术价值。

This book is a special study of modern Chinese fiction town narratives. The author starts from the aspects of disease narrative, death narrative, desire narrative, power narrative, left-wing narrative, ritual narrative, "alienation" phenomenon, "water" imagery, narrative technique, female image, etc. in the narrative of modern novels in the town narrative of modern novels, and conducts in-depth discussions on the urban narrative of modern Chinese fiction through different perspectives. At the same time, the author puts forward the concept of "modern Chinese town literature" in the book and expounds the connotation of this concept. By proposing the concept of "modern Chinese urban literature", it breaks through the understanding of the binary opposition division mode of "local literature-urban literature" of modern Chinese literature in previous literary historical works, and forms a new understanding of the three-dimensional division mode of "local literature, learning-urban literature-urban literature" of modern Chinese literature.
