“读书的料”在此指改革开放之后出生并进入精英大学的中国农家子弟。借助自传社会学和深度访谈，本书对他们通过教育向上流动过程中的文化生产进行了深描，揭示了先赋性动力、道德化思维、学校化的心性品质在这一过程中的特殊意义。通过展现这些农家子弟的文化自主性，剖析循规本身的创造性及其与文化生产的内在关联，本书突破了“底层缺乏文化资本”这一为学界默认的观念，提出了底层文化资本理论。本书也特别关注了这样一种文化生产的暗面，直面了“子不承父业”的阶层跨越之旅对个体道德、情感和文化世界的冲击。

"Reading material" here refers to the children of Chinese peasants who were born after the reform and opening up and entered elite universities. Through autobiographical sociology and in-depth interviews, this book provides an in-depth description of their cultural production in the process of upward mobility through education, revealing the special significance of pre-endowed motivation, moral thinking, and school-oriented mental qualities in this process. By showing the cultural autonomy of these peasant children and analyzing the creativity of the rules itself and its intrinsic relationship with cultural production, this book breaks through the default concept of "lack of cultural capital at the bottom" and puts forward the theory of cultural capital at the bottom. This book also pays special attention to the dark side of such cultural production, and confronts the impact of the cross-class journey of "the son does not inherit the father's inheritance" on the moral, emotional and cultural world of individuals.（AI翻译）
