本书讨论术数从业者在灰色地带寻求职业合理性的过程即自我建构的过程。田野调查发现从业者的自我合理化过程从知识体系、制度组织、效果动机等层面展开，以文化民族主义、传统主义、心理咨询作为意义依托，并积极效仿专业化等现代社会组织特征。术数从业者的自我建构过程，印证了各个地方的文化均会遭遇的一个经典命题，即在市场、理性和全球化的背景下，与科学理性相违背的民间信仰活动及信念自身会有更新演变的过程。其自我赋权一方面受制于主流，另一方面又紧密攀附正统话语，借用现代性的体系等。民间实践活动灵活地重建与主流社会的关系，对这个过程的研究启发我们反思哪些社会文化因素支持了术数的横行，有助于我们出台有效的管理措施，以规范诸多民间信仰实践。
This book discusses the process by which mathematics practitioners seek professional rationality in the gray area, that is, the process of self-construction. The fieldwork found that the self-rationalization process of practitioners was carried out from the aspects of knowledge system, institutional organization, and effect motivation, relying on cultural nationalism, traditionalism, and psychological counseling as the meaning, and actively imitating the characteristics of modern social organization such as specialization. The self-construction process of mathematics practitioners confirms a classic proposition that various local cultures will encounter, that is, in the context of market, rationality and globalization, folk belief activities and beliefs that are contrary to scientific rationality will have a process of renewal and evolution. Its self-empowerment is subject to the mainstream on the one hand, and on the other hand, it closely clings to orthodox discourse, borrowing the system of modernity, etc. The study of the process of folk practice activities flexibly reconstructs the relationship with mainstream society, and the study of this process inspires us to reflect on which socio-cultural factors support the rampant operation of arithmetic, and helps us to introduce effective management measures to regulate many folk belief practices.（AI翻译）
