Algeria-China relations are characterized by friendship,fruitful cooperation and mutual respect.In 1958,the Algerian interim Government was recognized by China,which was considered as the first Non-Arab country recognizing Algeria.On December 20^thof the same year,the diplomatic relations was established between the two countries,then the friendly relations of cooperation are developing continuously.After entering this century,the friendly cooperation between the two countries has achieved more rapid development and become strategic partnership.In 2014,Algeria became the first Arab country to forge a comprehensive strategic partnership with China,which can fully testify the close relations between the two countries.The Belt and Road Initiative when proposed also got positive response from Algeria.The Algerian officials stressed the importance of implementing jointly this initiative,expanding cooperation in infrastructure and industry and increasing of the volume of trade between the two countries.These two countries maintained regular politi cal exchanges and continued to keep close consultation and coordination in regional and international affairs.Economic and trade cooperation made new progress.Since 2014,China has become Algeria's largest source of imports,with two-way trade volume increasing by 10 times over the past decade.Meanwhile,Algeria has become one of the biggest markets for China's overseas construction contractors,as hundreds of Chinese companies are undertaking in Algeria various construction projects,including highways,hospitals and housing units.Chinese companies have been heavily involved in developing Algerian infrastructure; their reputation for doing quality work and at a good price is well established across the country.The two countries saw further development in their military,health,cultural,education and technology exchanges and cooperation.Algeria now is in the transition period of politi cal,economic and social fields,so that the cooperation between China and Algeria is facing new opportunities and challenges.
