浙江师范大学马克思主义理论学科历史悠久，特色明显，成果突出，影响广泛。1963年成立的马克思主义理论教研室，1977年创办政史系，1987年成立马克思主义理论教研部，1999年成立社会科学教研部，2011年在整合原有资源基础上，学校组建马克思主义学院，2017年被确定为省重点建设高校马克思主义学院，2018年与金华市委宣传部共建马克思主义学院。目前马克思主义理论学科为省一流A类学科、浙江省重点高校重点建设学科、浙江师范大学高峰学科，已形成马克思主义基本原理、马克思主义中国化研究、思想政治教育、国外马克思主义研究、中国近现代史五个研究方向，在2012年教育部学科评估中，马克思主义理论学科综合实力位居浙江省属高校第1，其中科学研究水平位居全国第5。在艾瑞森中国校友会网2016年中国大学学科排行榜上获评五星级学科，在全国该学科中排名为14/332，在2017年全国第四轮学科评估中获B，位列省属高校第一。

组织出版《浙江师范大学马克思主义理论研究文库》，旨在整体呈现浙江师范大学长期以来特别是党的十八大以来马克思主义理论研究的成果，分“马克思主义基本理论”、“马克思主义中国化在浙江”、“伦理学与思想政治教育”、“国外马克思主义”、“中国近代史基本问题”等研究系列，体现原创性与时代性，体现学科特色与地方特色，体现科研与教学的高度融合，以实现“引人以大道、启人以大智、育人以大才”之目标。
