本书按照《马克思恩格斯全集》的时间顺序编排，分为三编：著作编、书信编、补卷编。从恩格斯1840年至1895年期间的著作、文章、草稿、未完成的手稿，起草的工人运动的文件、书信和笔记、摘要中选取主要思想论述编写而成，比较全面地摘录了恩格斯所有具有思想性、理论性的文献和书信，选取代表恩格斯思想观点的段落、话语，进行经典呈现。全书主要包括两个部分，一是摘录，忠实摘取恩格斯的主要论述；二是评论，从出版情况、写作背景、主要观点、时代影响、思想价值、实践指导等多个角度对文献进行解读，为读者全面学习、科学理解恩格斯思想提供导引。

The book is arranged according to the chronological order of the Complete Works of Marx and Engels, and is divided into three parts: the compilation of works, the compilation of letters, and the compilation of supplementary volumes. From Engels' works, articles, drafts, unfinished manuscripts, documents, letters, notes, and abstracts drafted by the workers' movement from 1840 to 1895, the main ideological expositions were selected and compiled, and all the ideological and theoretical documents and letters of Engels were extracted more comprehensively, and the paragraphs and discourses representing Engels' ideological views were selected for classic presentation.
