张顺洪，湖北云梦人。中国社会科学院历史理论研究所研究员，历史学博士，长期从事世界历史研究工作。1979年9月进入武汉大学历史系学习；1985年赴英国伦敦大学学习，先后获历史学硕士、博士学位；1990年到中国社会科学院世界历史研究所工作。主要专业领域是中英关系史、英帝国史、世界近现代史。曾任世界历史研究所所长，《世界历史》《史学理论研究》和英文刊《世界史研究》（World History Studies）的主编。出版了英文专著《英人评华》（British Views on China）；也是《大英帝国的瓦解》《英美新殖民主义》《明清时代的中国与世界》《西方新社会运动研究》《世界历史极简本》等书的第一作者。现为中国史学会副会长；第十三届全国政协委员。多项研究成果获得学术奖。2005年获国务院政府特殊津贴。2004年6月～2009年6月从事党务工作。2004年6月到中国社会科学院直属机关党委工作，任副书记，先后分管组织处、统战处等部门工作；2008年10月起为正局级，兼任院工会副主席职务并主持院工会日常工作。2009年6月调任世界历史研究所所长；现兼研究生院世界历史系主任。2009年6月，任中国社会科学院世界历史研究所所长。

The predecessor of the Institute of History of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences is the Institute of Chinese History of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 1954, the Chinese Academy of Sciences established the first and second Institute of History. On February 26, 1960, the central government approved the first and second Institute of History of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to merge into the Institute of Chinese History. In 1977, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences was established and the Institute of History became one of the affiliates of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
